Eating in Washington DC

Whilst spending a few days in Washington DC, we made sure to hunt down the Nandos so I could get a taste of home! Sharing my places to eat below!

Moving from London to New York meant I had to give up my love for Nandos. However, when I was visiting DC, I found out there were three Nandos located around where we were staying.

Nando’s Peri-Peri (Portuguese, South African)

1210 18th St NWWashington, DC 20036

Famous for its peri peri chicken, my husband and I were super excited to visit this place (even though my husband is American he has also found a new love for Nandos after visiting me in London). When you get to Nandos, you are seated with a table number. You then have to go order the food yourself and server will bring out your food when it is ready. This restaurant is a mix between fast food and restaurant type service. All the sauces are stacked in the middle section along with cutlery and plates. My husband ordered chicken in pita with fries and I ordered vegetable pita and peri peri fries. The food was yummy and the hot sauces are what make the meal. The standard and quality wasn’t as good as London but it is very close!!! Two happy customers. Now Nandos needs to come to New York!!

Birch & Barley

$$$ American (New), Breakfast & Brunch
1337 14th St NWWashington, DC 20005

This restaurant was recommended to us via our hotel for our Sunday brunch. I was a bit wary of the menu, but my husband and I were pleasantly surprised.  Our coffee cup was constantly refilled. My husband ordered the chicken and waffles and I ordered the asparagus omelette with hash-browns. Both meals were delicious and were very good quality. The presentation was great too! We also tried the banana nut bread which was very tasty. There was a nice atmosphere and we had a classy brunch. I would highly recommend this place if you are visiting DC.

Hi there, my name is Deepa Makwana and if you hadn’t guessed already, I LOVE all things food, travel and lifestyle. Since moving from London to New York, I have been wanting to write about my recipes and travel however I was a little afraid to share! But as my mother always says ‘if you don’t try, you will never know’. So I have finally decided to create my own little outlet on anything and everything involving things like where to eat, travels, home recipes, my fav home products or even the best shows I am watching! If I can help in any way – I have achieved my goal! Come on in and have a peak! DeepsMak x
