Christmas Pink Shake


While everyone is drinking eggnog, mulled wine or hot coco, I decided to share my slightly healthier Pink Christmas drink! Happy Pinkmas Everyone!

I love drinking a cold glass of rose milkshake. I normally either use rose syrup (linked here) or Nesquick strawberry flavored powder (linked here)! It’s a really light and refreshing drink and for my vegan buddies, you can substitute the regular milk and use coconut or almond milk instead!

As I am addicted to drinking this all of the time, I was on the hunt add something healthy to it. After drinking an Indian milkshake called Falooda, my mum always told me about Tukmuria seeds also known as Sacred Basil Seeds so I decided to add these to my drink!

Tukmuria seeds are edible vegetable seeds. Once added to water, the mucilaginous gel that forms around the seeds allows for the following benefits:

  • It can be used to relieve constipation and diarrhea.
  • The seeds can act as an appetite suppressant during weight loss programs, when eaten (or drunk) before meals. Since they are very nutritious and poor in calories, they contribute to minimize the possibility of nutritional deficiency even under low calories intake. That accounts for the feeling of fullness lasting longer and can be useful for both weight loss and diabetes.
  • Other reputed benefits of regular tukmaria seeds intake are a more active digestion, body purifying process by way of removal of toxins from the gut, and the ability to help preventing heart conditions by lowering cholesterol levels.
  • They can also help curing respiratory diseases and relieving stress. They have also been indicated as good for treatment of skin infections.

Instructions:

First I poured my milk and a couple of drops of rose syrup into my copper milk frother and pumped some air into it to make the milk all nice and frothy! It also thickens the milk making your milkshake more filing and therefore no need to add ice-cream (you can if you want to of course).

I then took a couple of spoonfuls of Tukmuria seeds and added water. Be careful, these seeds begin to absorb the water very quickly so you only need a few teaspoons full. Once the gel seeds were formed, I added them to my glass.

Next I added my frothy milkshake to my drinking glasses. Normally, at this point, I would stop right here and gulp it down, however as its Christmas I topped my drink off with marshmallows, frozen fruits and some cotton candy (candy floss) for a festive and decorative look!

Just yummy!!!!! Enjoy!
